Ski Dude!

Last night was our ward discount ski night. Ryan didn't feel like going so I decided to just take Hayden and make it a date night! It was Hayden's first time skiing! He has been asking me for a while now and I have been telling him no because it is SOOO expensive. After you buy your lift ticket and rent equipment you are looking at at least $50 per person. Last night was a great opportunity because it was only $20 per person including skis!
I signed Hayden up for a lesson for only $5 dollars and left him to it while I took to the slops a couple of times. I have only been skiing a handful of times in my life and take it really slow. In fact this is only my second time since moving to Utah! Both times with the ward!

I was so nervous taking Hayden. I was worried that he would get to cold or that his feet would be uncomfortable. But No Sir! He did AMAZING! It took him a little while to get the hang of it with the instruct er but she just keep working with him and before long he was going down a little hill no problem. The Instructor didn't have another lesson after Hayden's so she offered to take him down for the first time because I was petrified! I was like "are you sure he's ready?" She kept saying "yeah, he is doing awesome, I'll help him get down"
I think Beaver Mountain is really steep, I'm sure that it isn't at all steep, but with my inexperience it looks really steep to me. I snow plow all the way down.
When you get off the lift you have to go down this first part that curves around and if you kept going straight you would go right off a drop off into trees. That was my biggest fear because I wasn't sure if he could stop well enough yet. The instructor got in front of him skiing backwards but he kinda veered of and started heading for the cliff. I swear I almost had a heart attack. I was yelling "just fall down" because he started to gain all this speed but wouldn't snow plow to slow down. Finally he got himself stopped by sitting down and was fine. ssshheeew. That was the worst of it. From then on he had it!

I took him down after that 5 more times and he was going faster and skiing better than me by the end of the night! I was so proud of him! I have always felt so bad for Hayden because physical things haven't always come easy for him. I was blown away because he really is a natural! We had a blast together and I can't believe how big he is.
I'm bummed that the pictures are so blurry but I forgot my camera and only had my phone. With it being dark it took really crappy pictures. Oh well at least I got some document of his first ski trip. Can't wait for more!
Thanks for the fun night Hayden!
